Arizona & New Mexico

Welcome: Welcome to the Arizona and New Mexico 2014 National Corvette Museum Caravan web page. I look forward to an exciting caravan to the Labor Day NCM 20th Anniversary Event in 2014. I believe that you will find that we are planning a memorable event for your enjoyment.

Registration:
Registration for the for the NCM 20th Anniversary Celebration and the 2014 National Corvette Museum Caravan is not open at this time but I know that the time will pass quickly as we prepare for registration to open in 2013.

Arizona and New Mexico Caravan Route 66: Our Caravan will join with the Southern California & Southern Nevada Caravan in Williams, AZ on Friday, 22 Aug 2014. We are planning for a show/shine, cocktails and dinner with our friends from Southern California and Southern Nevada. Our merged caravan will join with the Texas Panhandle & Oklahoma Caravan in Amarillo, TX on Sunday, 24 Aug 2014. Wow! We will have a large caravan that will definitely be a sight to see! Can you imagine the sight of our combined Caravan arriving in Bowling Green on Wednesday, 27 Aug 2014?

Schedule:

  • Friday, August 22nd, We will have a Meet and Greet gathering in Phoenix before we caravan to Williams for a combined event with Captain Hib Halverson of the So Cal & So Nev Caravan. This will be the first evening event for our caravan.
  • Saturday, August 23rd, Our merged Caravan will depart for Albuquerque, NM along the "new" Route 66...I-40. We plan a lunch stop and short break in Gallup, NM where you can shop for authentic (at least that is what they say) Indian jewelry. We plan a Meet and Greet event at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Albuquerque for the Albuquerque, Los Alamos and Santa Fe Caravaners.
  • Sunday, August 24th, We will depart Albuquerque along the original Route 66 to Santa Fe; Las Vegas, NM; and Santa Rosa, NM. This is a very scenic route along the old Route 66 before Governor Hannett changed the route in 1937 to punish Santa Fe for his defeat in his re-election. We will arrive in Amarillo, TX for a planned sponsored dinner and evening activities. This will be the "kick off" gathering where we merge our Caravan with the Texas Panhandle & Oklahoma Caravan.
  • Monday, August 25th, Captains Tuna and Susan Dobbins will take the lead of the combined Caravans from Amarillo to El Reno for lunch and then along the original Route 66 to Tulsa, OK where we will overnight and have some special events planned.
  • Tuesday, August 26th, We will depart Tulsa on I-44 to Springfield, MO for lunch. After lunch we plan to travel along US-60 to Poplar Bluff, MO where we will overnight. Plans are still developing for this location due to the large number of participants expected at this location.
  • Wednesday, August 27th, We will follow Captains Dobbins through a very scenic portion of Western Kentucky through the Land Between the Lakes onto Bowling Green. Due to the two lane roads and limited expressways, we expect the caravan to become separated; therefore, we plan a reforming in the Bowling Green area so that we can enter the Museum "in masse".

Rigid Schedule?
We are planning for your enjoyment and have completed a trial run over the route to "iron out" the details. The final day will allow you time to stop and eat along the route or take pictures and tour scenic places along the route. You are encouraged to make new friends or travel with your fellow Corvette Club members. The Wednesday afternoon reforming of the Caravan in Bowling Green before entering the NCM will provide some flexibility for you. This is a vacation and a FUN event, not a hard drive to Bowling Green.

Hotels:
We have not established a travel agency to assist with your reservations. We will provide host hotel names and recommended hotels; however, currently you will be responsible for your reservations.

Who's in Charge?
Captain Holt Davis is the Arizona and New Mexico captain. I live in Artesia, NM and I am a member of the Permian Basin Corvette Club based in Midland/ Odessa, TX and a member of the West Texas Cruisers Car Club. I participated in the 2003 50th Anniversary Caravan and the 2009 15th Anniversary Caravan. I am still the little "kid" in middle school who saw that new '63 fastback and dreamed of having one. I never got it but I have owned 12 Corvettes through the years... I still own the fourth, ninth, eleventh, and twelfth. They are a '74 coupe, '00 coupe, '08 Z06, and the "new baby" a '67 roadster. I had one of my cars on the turntable at the NCM. I love Corvettes and I love to hear about your Corvettes.

Volunteers:
Local feeder caravan leaders and volunteers are needed. We need local leaders from Tucson, AZ; Las Cruces, NM, El Paso, TX; and Los Alamos, NM, Santa Fe, NM. Interested Corvette Clubs are also needed to help organize events in their area prior to our departure in Williams and for the feeder Caravans.

Sponsors Needed:
Anyone or business interested in becoming a sponsor of the Arizona and New Mexico Caravan should contact Holt Davis by email at grog426@gmail.com. Our combined Caravans and Route Book will provide better coverage for your business than previous Caravans. We look forward to making your business a part of the AZ NM 20th Caravan.
