>>Tire Raffle IV Ends<<

Caravaners Charlie and Gerri McManis won a deep-discount price on our fourth set of Goodyear tires. The McManis' live in Hemet, drive a 2006 Victory Red, Z51 Convertible and were, also, on the 03 trip.

Your Caravan Organizing Team appreciates the support of all the Cravaners who've participated in our Goodyear Tire raffles to date. The money helps us organize and stage our event. Anything left after the Caravan ends will be donated to the National Corvette Museum.

Also, thanks to Goodyear, the last great American tire company, for its support of the Southern California/Southern Nevada Caravan Section.

The next Goodyear Tire raffle will be announced in late March.

>>Departure Night<<

"Commander" Ron Cohen, the SoCal/SoNev Organizing Team's hotel booking specialist tells the eNews that there are still a fair amount of Caravaners registered for the SoCal/SoNev Section who have not booked rooms in Ontario on the night before we leave on the trip to Bowling Green.

While it's not required to participate in the Departure Eve bash, if you skip it and decide to meet the group at AutoClub Speedway on Saturday morning, you'll miss the following:

  1. The Route Book will be handed-out to all Southern California Caravaners the night before departure.
  2. The "Big Driver's Meeting" where you'll have dinner, meet your Organizing Team, hear last minute route announcements, ask important questions and have a chance to win door prizes and buy raffle tickets.
  3. If you're a rookie Caravaner, you'll meet a lot of new friends. If you're a veteran of the 96, 99 or 03 trips, you'll reacquaint yourselves with old friends you haven't seen in a while.
  4. >>Museum Announces Labor Day Event Plans<<

The National Corvette Museum has announced some plans for the 2009 Labor Day Celebration. This event always honors the NCM's opening but, this year, will also mark the 15th anniversary along with the opening of the NCM's addition.

To accommodate as many participants as possible in the activities planned, many of them will be repeated, not only during the usual three days of the event but also on Sunday. Multiple road tours will be available for all four days; autocross will have two sessions at least. Seminars will be on as many days as possible with repeat sessions for maximum participation. Expect multiple Poker Runs and chances to take part in a "Digital Scavenger Hunt", "Golf Cart Autocross" and "Pit Crew Challenge".

In addition to the usual Hall of Fame seminars, NCM is planning some new seminars on topics such as care/maintenance/repair of Corvettes, High Performance Driving, Museum History and Future, and other topics of general interest like the Bicentennial of Lincoln's birth which is a major happening in the State of Kentucky during 2009.

Those registered for the Labor Day Celebration can enjoy three days of displays like our 3rd Evolution Display, the grand re-opening of the Museum with the newly completed expansion, new road tours along with old favorites, special video presentations, special raffles and the annual open Membership meeting. The event will also include the Lifetime/VIP dinner, 10-year/15-year member recognition, Ambassador Breakfast, and the "Corvette Hall of Fame" Induction Ceremony and Banquet. Saturday afternoon major entertainment will be presented in the amphitheater.

The agenda and online registration should be active before March, 2009 and the deadline to register is August 10th, 2009. Make sure you are signed onto NCM electronic newsletter
    http://listserv.corvettemuseum.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A0=NCM-ENEWS
to be notified about the event. Those pre-registered for the weekend will receive the event dash plaque and lapel pin, as well as a personalized event badge.

    >>Remember! There WIll Be Two Rs.<<

If you are reading this, there's a good chance you're registered for the SoCal/SoNev Section of the 2009 Caravan but, if you're not, now's the time!! Visit the Caravan web page at: http://www.corvettecaravan.com/ and read to the bottom.

The other "R" is registration for the Corvette Museum's 15th Anniversary Labor Day Celebration, the event that's discussed above and takes place starting 3 Sept. 2009, the day after our Caravan Section arrives at the NCM in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Registration for the 2009 Labor Day Celebration is currently not available but will be in late March or early April.

For now, keep in mind that anyone who is registered for the Caravan and wants to take in the events at the Museum after we arrive, will have to also register for the 09 Labor Day event.

So, remember, the Two Rs are: Registration for the Caravan and Registration for the Labor Day Celebration.

    Going on the Caravan?
    Don't go braless!

Even new cars with less than 1,000 miles have paint blemishes from normal driving. Imagine what a cross-country trip will do to YOUR paint.

    The solution? A "Clear Bra".

It functions like a traditional auto bra but is far more durable and cannot be seen. It will NOT scratch your Corvette's finish like most "strap-on" auto bras. This 3M Paint and Headlight Protection lasts for the life of your Vette. SCSN Capt. Hib Halverson used a 3M Clear Bra on the 2003 National Corvette Caravan and endorses it as the best way to avoid damage to the front of your car.
