>>RADIOS, AGAIN<<

Hib Halverson, Section Captain for SoCal/SoNev, announced late last week more specifics of the SCSN Section's radio frequency. As stated in eNews #28, on our trip to Bowling Green, our Section's leadership will use General Mobile Radio Service 4-watt handitalkies (HTs) for communication. The main "Caravan Channel" will be GMRS frequency 462.6625 Mhz (often called "6625") which is, also, Family Radio Service (FRS) Ch5.

This week Halverson, working with the SoCal/SoNev Section's radio supplier, "The Solder Joint" in Orange CA, has developed additional information for those already owning programmable, GMRS handitalkies and wishing to program their radios. The main Caravan channel will not use "tone squelch" with either transmit or receive modes, so program your radio such that 462.6625 is set with the tone squelch "option" *turned off*.

For Family Radio Service handitalkies having tone squelch capability, the Caravan Channel will be FRS "channel 5.0".

If you have tone squelch enabled during the Caravan, you will have trouble communicating effectively.

Your standard squelch feature can be used.

All SoCal/SoNev Caravan "Commanders" and "Lieutenants" who have programmable GMRS radios should contact Hib Halverson for additional information about radio programming for Organizing Team members.

Finally, if you are interested in purchasing an iCom 4-watt, 15-channel GMRS Handitalkie which is preprogrammed for Caravan use, contact the Solder Joint, 808 N. Tustin Ave., Orange CA 92867. The phone number is 800-914-4680. Ask for Mark Lowman. You can also email Mark at markl@pciraceradios.com

>>LATEST CAR COUNTS<<

SoCal/SoNev 221
Central Texas 143
Oklahoma/Texas Panhandle 64
Arkansas/West Tennessee 48

Total 476 cars.

(* doesn't include cars from the Las Vegas area, Arizona or registrants who signed-up after 7/1/09)

Given those numbers, SoCal/SoNev Section Captain Halverson told the eNews, "My gut feeling is that in Little Rock when we leave on the last day of the trip we'll equal what we had in '03, 500 cars...maybe 525. Not bad when you consider 1) the main deal with the 2003 trip was the Vette's 50th Anniversary and we don't have that 'hook' this time and 2) the really crappy economy."

>>ROUTE BOOK GOES TO PRESS<<

"Commander" Tony Megowan, Director of the SCSN Section Route Book Project, told the eNews on Sunday that the "Route Book, presented by the California Delivery Service" for the SoCal/SoNev, CenTX, OK/TXPanhandle and AR/W-TN Sections has been shipped to the printer. The book will be distributed in a number of locations along the route to the various Caravan Sections.

Caravaners leaving with the Southern California/Southern Nevada Section from Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on Saturday 29 August will receive their Route Books the night before, during the "Pomona Valley Corvette Association's Departure Night Soiree" at the Ontario Marriott.

Best regards,
The SoCal/SoNev Caravan Organizing Team

Going on the Caravan?
Don't go braless!

Even new cars with less than 1,000 miles have paint blemishes from normal driving. Imagine what a cross-country trip will do to YOUR paint.

The solution? A "Clear Bra".

It functions like a traditional auto bra but is far more durable and cannot be seen. It will NOT scratch your Corvette's finish like most "strap-on" auto bras. This 3M Paint and Headlight Protection lasts for the life of your Vette. SCSN Capt. Hib Halverson used a 3M Clear Bra on the 2003 National Corvette Caravan and endorses it as the best way to avoid damage to the front of your car.
