Sponsors Step-Up!

Software Liaisons along with Brent and Marilyn Hicks have become the first two Special Start-Up Sponsors of the Southern California Section of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan. Last week, SoCalCar Captain, Hib Halverson, accepted sponsor checks from Sherry Maples, representing Software Liaisons, and Brent Hicks. The checks were the first deposits in the SoCalCar '09's bank account which is provided by another SoCalCar sponsor, Santa Barbara Bank and Trust.

Both Ms. Maples and the Hicks were sponsors of and participants in the 2003 Caravan. Maples, also, serves as a "Commander" on the SoCalCar Organizing Team. To become a "Special Start-Up Sponsor", an individual or a business must make a donation to the '09 SoCalCar of at least $500 prior to September 1, 2007.

The SoCalCar greatly appreciates the support of Software Liaisons and Brent and Marilyn and is especially grateful that these sponsorships come so long before the '09 Caravan actually takes place. We will use the money to fund trips to the NCM to attend National Captain's meetings, the printing of letter head and business cards, hiring an artist to design a logo and other start-up costs.

Commander's Council

The SoCalCar "Commander's Council" has scheduled its first business meeting on March 31st. The Council is the core leadership of the SoCalCar Organizing Team. Caravan Captain, Hib Halverson, tells the eNews that he's made one of that meeting's key agenda items a report by "Commander" Sherry Maples on the SoCalCar's web site survey project. If you haven't taken our survey, please go to the Southern California Caravan web site and click on the survey link.

Another important issue to be considered by the Commander's Council is the route of the Caravan. Finally, CC members will offer input and opinions which Halverson will convey to Caravan National Chair, Kathie Summers, and other Caravan Captains at the National Captain's Meeting in Bowling Green at the end of April.

Help Received

In the last edition of the SoCalCar eNews we stated we were looking for persons interested in becoming a Caravan "Commander". We've received several inquires about this position. The final appointment to the Council will be made soon and applications are no longer being accepted. Thanks to all who responded.

Help Wanted

SoCalCar Captain, Hib Halverson, is looking for two individuals to serve as Local Leaders of two "feeder caravans" which will depart from the south end of the Central Coast region and the San Diego area a day before the main Southern California Caravan departs from the L.A. area. These "Lieutenants" must live in those areas. They will be responsible for organizing and leading modest-sized groups of cars to the SoCalCar departure point in the L.A. area. These local leaders must be capable of organizing a small "event" at the departure location of their feeder caravan

Those applying for these positions on the SoCalCar Organizing Team should have some prior experience organizing club events. Also, experience in planning and organizing road tours or small caravans would be useful.

Those interested in volunteering for such a job should contact Hib Halverson at captain.socalcar@charter.net

Early Discussions with other Caravan Sections

The SoCalCar Organizing Team has been discussing with Captain Bob Kroener of the Arizona/New Mexico Caravan the meeting of our two groups. In addition, we've contacted Capt. "Tuna" Dobbins of the Oklahoma Caravan about the route the SoCalCar will take into Oklahoma and where we will meet the OK contingent and a group from North Texas. Halverson will, also, soon open channels of communication with Captain Robert Bush of the Texas Caravan and Captain Dorothy Crocker of the Texas-Southeast Caravan.

Best regards,
The Southern California/Southern Nevada Caravan Organizing Team
