Greetings Corvette Enthusiasts:
We are very excited to announce that Ed Saari and Glen Rowe will be Captains of this new region for the 2019 National Corvette Caravan combining the states of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, UP Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Central Canada.
Ed and Glen worked together in 2014 along with Barb, Chris, David, Tim, and Eric as Co-Captains, and many Local Leaders to put together a very successful and fun-filled event on the way to the National Corvette Museum with just over 300 Corvettes merging at meeting points and stops along the way.
2019 promises to be another awesome event you will not want to miss. Planning is under way and announcements will be forthcoming.
Stay tuned and Save the Wave!

Tentative schedule of events for the 25th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum
First Day – Monday, August 26, 2019:
On Monday, groups will be assembling from North Dakota South Dakota and traveling to Chula Vista Resort, Wisconsin Dells, WI. This group will include Corvettes from Central Canada, North Dakota and South Dakota.
In addition, they will be joined by the Pacific Northwest Caravan led by Ken Thomas and his wife Kathi. This caravan will bring Corvettes from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana & Alaska and join the North/South Dakota Caravan Group in Sioux Falls on August 26.
We are pleased to have Owen Michelson ( OlMichelson@cableone.net ) back as the Co-Captain in charge of the North Dakota portion of the caravan. He was a key contributor in the success of the 2009 and 2014 caravans. We would anticipate that the Central Canada enthusiasts will meet the North Dakota Caravan to travel to Chula Vista Resort. The North Dakota and Central Canada caravan will meet at Gateway Chevrolet in Fargo, ND to launch the caravan to the resort. It is planned that they will travel to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to join with Corvettes from that area.
Groups from the northern part of Minnesota will probably gather somewhere close to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and also caravan to Chula Vista Resort.
Groups from the southern part of Minnesota will gather at a location close to the south-east corner of the state and also travel to Chula Vista Resort.
Corvettes from UP Michigan and upper Wisconsin will travel to Chula Vista Resort or the Milwaukee area to stay overnight.
The address of the Chula Vista Resort is:
2501 N. River Rd.
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965
Chula Vista Resort, www.chulavistaresort.com, is one of the Midwest’s premier resorts, and an ideal overnight/staging site for participants who want to take this route. It is also a great place to spend the day before the official Caravan begins.
On Monday afternoon, August 26, 2019, participants may spend time at the Dells Raceway Track and drive hot aps on the 1/3 Mile paved oval. Or, participate in the many activities at the resort, including the waterpark, golf, swimming or simply relaxing or touring Wisconsin Dells – Hundreds of ways to have fun!
That evening at Chula Vista Resort, there will be a meet and greet followed by a dinner at the Resort with a presentation about the next two days activities and also the activities at the National Corvette Museum once the caravan arrives.
Chula Vista Resort will have a special price for a room for the evening. This package would also include free hors d’oeuvres and cocktails (beer, wine, cocktails) for 2 hours followed with dinner in a private dining room with other Caravan participants.
Check-in will begin on Monday, August 26 at 6:00pm at the dinner and staging will begin the next morning at 7:00 am with departure time probably at 7:30am.
This group headed up by Local Leaders Ron and Jan Arends will meet at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, Monday August 26th 2019 at 9:00am to 11:00am. For $20.00 per car you can take 5 laps around the track and then do a tour of the Speedway. After the speedway, the group will depart to Brooklyn, Iowa and park on Main Street from 11:30am to 1:00 PM where they will have lunch at the Classic Deli and Ice Cream Shop. After lunch the group will travel east to LeClaire, Iowa to the meet and greet on the levee at 6:30 PM. Ron and Jan did a great job with this group in the 2014 Caravan and are looking forward to another successful and fun trip. Other activities in LeClaire to be forthcoming. The group will spend the night and depart on Tuesday morning from the LeClaire staging area to Bloomington, IL via I-74.
Second Day – Tuesday, August 27, 2019:
The Caravan from Chula Vista Resort will depart early in the morning for Bloomington, IL. We will begin at 7:00am and the Caravan with take a short scenic drive through the Wisconsin countryside and then the caravan will travel the interstate system for a trip to Bloomington, Illinois for a catered lunch at Leman’s Chevy City, part of Sam Leman Automotive Group, one of the largest Chevrolet dealers in downstate Illinois. Gas will also be available next door to Leman’s Chevy City.
A Caravan from the Milwaukee area will also leave at about this time and merge with the Chula Vista Caravan on I-39 just before the Illinois border.
We then plan to meet some of the Illinois Caravan at Maggio’s Auto & Truck Center, just south of Rockford where we will stop for a rest stop. Both groups will then caravan along the I-39 corridor heading towards Bloomington. This will be a fun group!!
We anticipate that Caravans from Chicago, Joliet, Naperville, Peoria, West Dundee, Central Iowa, North Central Iowa and Western Iowa will all converge in Bloomington, IL for lunch.
After lunch at Leman’s Chevy City, the caravan will continue on an eight mile scenic drive through the countryside before joining the interstates and reaching Effingham, Illinois.
Overnight in Effingham –

After you check in at your hotel and freshen up a bit, everyone will head out to Mid America Motorworks and a great buffet dinner.

Mashed Potatoes & Brown Gravy, Corn, Green Beans, Noodles, Cole Slaw, 7 Layer Salad, Rolls & Butter. Desert was an assortment of Niemberg’s famous Homemade Pies. Coffee, Ice Tea & Lemonade. Real Plates, Silverware, Cups. This will be great way to finish the day chatting with like minded people, sharing stories of the road and those Corvettes we all love. Yes, once again we will have entertainment, music and dancing!! The evening buffet at Mid America Motorworks is optional and all money will collected at the door. The price will be announced later.
Third Day – Wednesday, August 28, 2019
On Wednesday morning we will meet at Mid America in Effingham and spend some time there browsing around before staging again for the next leg of the caravan which takes us to our destination, the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky. We will leave Mid America Motorworks in the morning and (I57 and I64) travel to Poseyville, Indiana and stop at the Red Wagon Restaurant for their fabulous buffet.
We will leave the Red Wagon Restaurant in the early afternoon when we are released by the Museum staff so that we arrive at the museum at our scheduled time. We should have a Kentucky State Trooper lead us in from the Kentucky border. We will have a parade lap around the museum and you are encouraged to stop in and pick up your caravan packet.
A handbook will be generated that contains our routes, stops, hotels etc. and will be emailed out to the caravanners prior to the event.
