Our Caravan

Maybe you are new to the Corvette world, or maybe you do not know of the 2019 Caravan, so what is the 2019 Caravan? It is a gathering of Corvette enthusiasts from around the United States, Canada and several other countries. We form caravans of Corvettes from locations around the Country to make a great road trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky. This will be an event beginning in late August which will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum on Labor Day weekend 2019. Caravans will form from locations close to your home for this event so you can participate with thousands of other Corvette owners. Participants can join at various locations along the way.

We are excited that you are visiting the Arizona and New Mexico National Corvette Museum web page.

We have planned an exciting and memorable Caravan to the National Corvette Museum 25th Anniversary Celebration. We will caravan along scenic sections of Arizona and New Mexico highways. What could be better than traveling along the beautiful mountain roads in your Corvette?

Changes for this revision
1. The daily routes and events. 2. Host hotels. 3. Lunch and dinner plans.

Our Route
We will Begin in Phoenix with a morning departure on Friday, August 23rd. Our route will be different from previous AZ-NM Caravans with a southerly route rather than the common drive along I-40. We will have more scenic drives and different events. We will join with the South Texas and Arkansas Caravans for our final caravan into Bowling Green. Imagine the sight of hundreds of Corvettes in these combined Caravans traveling to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green!

Caravan Route, Schedule and Hotels?
I have driven our caravan route to Bowling Green. What a great scenic trip! I believe that all participants will find our “Southern” Caravan to be fun and interesting…We will enjoy a lot of scenic roads instead of just the Interstate highways.

  • Friday – August 23:  Meet and Greet Phoenix and Tucson participants in Phoenix, AZ.  We will caravan to Show Low, AZ for lunch and fuel.  We will announce the Albuquerque host hotel soon.
  • Saturday – August 24: I will lead our Caravan departing Albuquerque along I-25 south to San Antonio, NM where we will turn  east on US-380.  Our drive will pass the volcanic Valley of Fire and some beautiful mountain roads to Cattle Barron in Ruidoso, NM for lunch.. Following lunch we will travel on US-70 and NM-244 to Cloudcroft, NM for a little shopping for Indian souvenirs, jewelry or a cold drink at the Western Bar & Cafe.  Continuing from Cloudcroft we will travel to the Hampton Inn  & Suites in Artesia, NM.  An evening dinner is planned at the Adobe Rose  Restaurant.
  • Sunday – August 25:  We will depart from the host hotel east along US-82 driving through a portion of the  Permian Basin oil field to Hobbs, NM and on to our lunch. We will then travel to Midland TX and tour the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum.. There are many interesting exhibits as well as a collection of Jim Hall’s Chaparral race cars. The Chaparral cars won world championships with a lot of help from Zora Duntov and Chevrolet. Our plan is to continue through the largest Texas wind farm to the Hilton Garden Inn in Abilene, TX for the evening. There are many fine restaurants near the hotel.
  • Monday – August 26:   We will have a leisurely drive to the Marriott Hotel and Golf Club at Champions Circle across from Texas Motor Speedway. Lunch is available at the hotel or in nearby Roanoke, TX. Our afternoon plans include meeting a portion of the South Texas Caravan and an optional drive along pit road and winner’s circle at the TMS. A two and half lap ride in the track “van” is included.
  • Tuesday – August 27:  We will depart from TMS after a meet and greet with the Lone Star Corvette Club and South Texas participants with a parade lap of TMS. We will plan a lunch stop in Texarkana, TX. Afterward we will continue to Little Rock, AR for the evening and a meet and greet event with the Arkansas Caravan and additional participants from the South Texas Caravan at Bales Chevrolet.
  •  Wednesday – August 28:   We will depart from the Four Points Sheraton with a police escort along I-40 for our final caravan to Bowling Green. We will plan a lunch and fuel stop in Jackson, TN. We do not have any blocked hotel rooms; however, the NCM is assisting finding rooms in BG. There are many new hotels which have opened so rooms will become available as over blocked rooms are released. Additional rooms are available in surrounding towns.

We will not use a travel agency to reserve rooms for the 2019 AZ/ NM Caravan registered participants. Contact Captain Holt Davis at for additional hotel information. The host hotels will provide discounts and security. I will establish AZ-NM Caravan registrations for these hotels. I will update our hotels and restaurants as additional information becomes available.

Rigid Schedule?
We are planning for your enjoyment and have completed several trial runs along this route. We encourage you to research sites along the way. Plan scenic stops that you, your friends, or your club like. You do not need to run “nose to tail” since we have relaxed schedules with plenty of Caravan reform locations along the way.

Who is in charge?
Captain Holt Davis is the Arizona & New Mexico Captain for the 2019 Caravan. I live in Southeastern New Mexico and I am a member of the Lone Star Corvette Club located in Dallas – Ft. Worth, TX. I participated in the 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette Caravan and the 2009 15th Anniversary Caravan. I was captain for the 2014 20th AZ-NM Caravan. I fell in love with the ’63 Corvette Stingray fastback the first time I saw one and dreamed of owning one. Well that did not happen but I have owned 14 Corvettes through the years including a ’67 Roadster. My ’71 was displayed on the turntable at the front of the NCM. Additional information is available at the Arizona and New Mexico 2019 Caravan to National Corvette Museum Facebook page.

Sponsors are needed
This is a special event where you can present your products and services to many Caravaners since this will be one of the largest Caravans to Bowling Green. We will place advertisements in our electronic Route Book and printed Route Book. Please contact Captain Holt Davis, for details.
